Paolo Cortesi

Mi chi

I was born in 1960 in Bologna and I live with my family in Castello d’Argile, a small town in the Po valley on the Aemilian plain, half way between to the sea and the Appennines. In this sort “middle land”, I developed my passion for the Natural world and the view-finder become my access key to that world to which I feel to belong more and more.

From a “photographic” point of view I’m really devoted to my territory, even if I don’t mind, now and then, visiting other places more or less exotic, either far away to close by.

I can’t say which are my favourite subjects because I found that in Nature everything is wonderful: at the beginning I preferred the birds of damp zones but soon the main characters of my pictures become also insects, plants and flowers, amphibians and reptiles, landscapes, lights and seasons.

I’m not really keep an exaggerated technicalities and sophisticated equipment: I’ve always thought that it’s better if between the photographer and the subject not too many things are put in between, in order to enjoy that precious moment of contact with Nature that is always too brief.

Nature has always spoken her own language through her creatures and her expressions; a language that often we,  evoluted(?) humans, are no more able to comprehend.

I believe that the photographer’s task is to become a sort of connection, an interpreter who is able to make the Nature talk about herself: if the mediator is good these “stories” could even bewitch
